An activity like this doesn't get paid
-Are you going to throw the fish away?
"I'm getting rid of this fish, and I'll bury it...I usually say 'return it to the field'. It's difficult to make good use of it.
The Japanese law prohibits this fish. It's designated as one of the invasive species, and people are asked to get rid of the fish whenever they find it.
If you carry it alive, give it to someone else, buy it or release it somewhere, you'll be punished heavily. In this pond it could grow to 23cm long, and bigger ones reach 40cm."
-What made you start this activity?
"I used to watch grebe, the small water bird, all the time here. Gradually, strange things started to happen though, like a lively baby grebe disappearing on the next day. Well, if I think back now, black bass had eaten it...by just one swallow, with the big mouth. Actually black bass eats anything.
Since then I've been getting rid of bad fish, I guess from 2007. An activity like this doesn't get paid, so we are permitted to work as volunteers. There are many difficulties volunteering, but it's pretty fun as well."
