Because it was late at night.

"I used to work at a chemical company until my retirement. I used to work night shifts, because a chemical company needs to operate all day and all through year. My company faced the river, so in the middle of the night, we used to take a rest at the end of the pier. And we could see the Haneda Aiport on the other side. Because it was late at night, we could see airplanes land and take off every 2〜3 minutes."
